About Me

Hi, my name is Lyn Nakumura, I am a hairstylist and free form ceramicist living in California. My hope and mission is to help domestic abuse survivors develop a sense of empowerment, strength, and an opportunity to make a better life for themselves. I invite you to join me in this mission and the opportunity to change someone’s life! 

MY STORY

My story begins with hope. A hope that the relationship my husband and I had created would end happily, despite the on again off again cycle of substance abuse...but that was not the case.  During a   clean year we decided to start a family.  I stayed clean for our son, but my husband could not.  It was at that time I realized I had to let go of hope and found the courage to leave.  My husband and I divorced, he eventually got clean, and we have maintained a friendship. I understand not all stories have a positive outcome. This is where I want to help.

It is my passion and desire to provide a safe home for other families who have the courage to leave difficult or unsafe situations.  My intent in creating and selling my ceramic pieces, is to have all proceeds go to fund a safe house.  From beginning to end it is important families are supported and set up for success and do not get pulled back to an unsafe environment.

The name, Kamaluhia, meaning “peace and protection”,  was the name given to me by my Kumu (hula teacher). I began signing my pieces with the name Kamaluhia, and will also call the safe house the same once it is established.

Hawaii lives in my heart, so what better place to create a safe house than in Hawaii.
